萩原啓蔵 作　ぐい呑み「啓蔵虫喰い」

漆黒の地に、幾層にも重ねられた釉薬。
そのなかで、かすかな蒼が溶け込み、乳濁の釉薬が独特の景色を生み出しています。
表面に現れた虫喰いが、夜空の星のような表情をつくり出しています。

黒と白を基調にしたぐい呑みですが、
この作品を啓蔵はいたく気に入っておりました。

あるとき
「黒い地に乳濁の釉薬という作品はこれまでもあったが、何がそれほど違うのか」
と尋ねたことがあります。

啓蔵いわく、なによりも、この「虫喰い」が違うのだそうです。

黒の地釉、その上からかかる乳白色の釉薬。
その両方に「虫喰い」の孔（あな）が現れている。
それがどれほど難しいことか、と語ってくれました。

愛おしそうに、この作品をじっとみつめる啓蔵の姿から、思い通りの作品が生み出された喜びが伝わってきました。

そしてこうも言っていました。
「この違いがわかる人に、その良さをわかった上で使ってもらいたい。よくわからない人にはこの作品を手放したくない。」

Layers of deep black glaze form the ground.
Within them, a faint blue emerges, while a milky overglaze creates a quiet, shifting landscape.
Small mushikui pits appear across the surface, like stars in a night sky.

Though simple in black and white, this was a piece Keizo was especially fond of.

When I once asked what made it different from earlier works with a similar glaze,
he answered without hesitation — the mushikui.

Both the black base glaze and the milky overglaze reveal these tiny openings.
Achieving this in both layers, he said, is remarkably difficult.

Looking at the piece with quiet affection, he added:

“I would like this to go to someone who can truly see it.
Otherwise, I would rather keep it.”
